Momin Uppal
Founder
Momin Uppal received the B.S. degree in electronic engineering with highest distinction from GIK Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, in 2002. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station, in 2006 and 2010, respectively. He spent the summers of 2009 at NEC Labs of America, Inc., Princeton, New Jersey as a research assistant, and the summers of 2012 at Texas A&M University Qatar as a visiting researcher. He has been associated with the LUMS School of Science and Engineering since October 2010.

Dr. Zubair Khalid
Director
Dr. Zubair is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan. He has been awarded the 2024 ACM Gordon Bell Prize for Climate Modeling for his project “Boosting Earth System Model Outputs and Saving PetaBytes in Their Storage Using Exascale Climate Emulators.” The award, considered as Nobel of Supercomputing and announced at the Supercomputing Conference, recognizes innovative parallel computing contributions to addressing the global climate crisis. He was also a Visiting Professor at the Department of Statistics, at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) from Aug. 2023 to Aug. 2024. He is also the co-founder of Vending Central.

Dr. Muhammad Tahir
Director
Dr. Muhammad Tahir received the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2007 from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore and the Master of Science in Electronic Engineering in 2009 from Politecnico di Torino, Italy. In April 2013, he obtained his Ph.D. degree also from Politecnico di Torino, Italy in the field of Electronics and Telecommunication. His research activity is focused on the development of novel algorithms for satellite navigation receiver technology. His research interests include receiver baseband signal processing algorithm design and development, Bayesian signal processing, detection and estimation theory, channel coding in communication networks, machine learning and sequential Monte Carlo methods.

Dr. Shaper Mirza
Director
Dr. Shaper Mirza holds a BSc (Honors) degree from the University of Karachi and a PhD from The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Before joining LUMS in 2015, Dr. Mirza served as an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas – Houston Health Science Center in the Division of Epidemiology, Human Genetics, and Environmental Health, beginning in 2008. During her tenure at the Brownsville regional campus, she initiated groundbreaking research on the relationship between immune impairments associated with type-2 diabetes that affect protection against pneumococcal infections. At LUMS, Dr. Mirza is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering. She specializes in teaching immunology and bacterial pathogenesis. She has established a research lab investigating the impact of hyperglycemia on the impaired functions of neutrophils and CD4+ T cells. A recognized expert in molecular pathogenesis, Dr. Mirza has published extensively in high-impact journals and serves as an editor for two scientific journals.
