We are (GCF) and Open Data Pakistan hosted a 2-day hackathon on 23-24 September under the initiative of Urraan – Women in Urban Mobility. The hackathon was aimed at students from different universities across Pakistan who came together to propose creative technological solutions for issues of women’s mobility in Pakistan. The female mobility-centric topics the hackathon attempted to tackle were: Safety & Harassment, Walkability, Design and Infrastructure, Access to Information, Commuting to Jobs, and Job Finding. There was a brilliant team of mentors with very strong urban planning, transportation, and technology backgrounds. A team of judges determined the winners based on the ingenuity and scalability of the ideas presented. The hackathon also included a series of talks by academics, government officials, and industry experts. We are (GCF) and Open Data Pakistan will continue to host such hackathons in the future; we believe that by engaging the brilliant students of our nation with regard to urban planning and development, we can play our part in developing future leaders who will spearhead new and innovative urban planning strategies.
